The
Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have notified that no late
fee would be payable on the following GST Returns.
the
registered persons whose return in FORM GSTR-3B of the Central Goods and
Services Tax Rules, 2017 for the month of October 2017, was submitted but not
filed on the common portal, after generation of the application reference
number;
the registered persons who have filed the return in FORM GSTR-4 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017 for the period October to December, 2017 by the due date but the late fee was erroneously levied on the common portal;
the Input Service Distributors who have paid the late fee for filing or submission of the return in FORM GSTR-6 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017 for any tax period between the 1 st day of January, 2018 and the 23rd day of January, 2018.
This is according to the recommendation of the GST Councilmeeting.
The last date for filing GST returns for July was August 25 for taxpayers who did not want to claim transitional input tax credit, while it was August 28 for those who wanted to avail transitional credit. On Tuesday, finance minister Arum Jaitley, while announcing the figures for GST collections for July, had said that a nominal late filing penalty of Rs 100 per day for CGST and SGST each will be levied for those who haven’t yet paid the GST.
